From what I percieve sand based soley on my personal opinion she cares more about shallow awards that don't mean anything and accolades for basically doing nothing by wearing clothes than she does for Fair Trade and organic clothing. The proof are in these quotes below along with my other posts on this subject. Those posts are on the right side of my page under "Emma's fashion none-sense." I find her whole People Tree affiliation to be a rouse to gain credibility behind the scenes in the fashion world and her stated passion for organic clothing to be quite insincere. If you knew how many celebrities try to get their own fashion line or want one but don't have the backing for it my logic would make sense. She found a loop-hole.
She is no longer affiliated with People tree and had since moved on working with an high end designer. In my opinion it's just another one of those famous "celebrity causes" that serve an image. She never wear any of it like she says she would when promoting it. She says its not one of those celebrity things but she promotes it as such. I don't want to beat a dead horse with this so go check out my other posts on "Emma's fashion none-sense." You will see her hypocrisy and contradictions more detailed there. I'm putting this post in my "Echee vindicated" label because comments like these make me feel vindicated in my opinion. She talks so highly of the importance but does not practice what she preaches.
From loveemmawatson.tumblr.com 2011 Vanity fair interview Is it because of your French origins that Glamour UK named you the most elegant woman in the world? Maybe. I really like fashion, but also a certain understatement that’s typical of those French girls I see on the streets. My style is a mix of these two things: trying to be tasteful without trying to seek attention at any costs. I love simple things. Few accessories, not much make-up. Now that you’ve won this title, aren’t you stressed when you dress up in the morning? Oh, way more than before! (Laughs again) As soon as I see something I like I think: will this dress make me lose the title? But in the end, I just decide things myself. For example, how long did it take for you to choose this dress? Just a second, because I wanted to feel comfortable today. I had this DVF dress and I wore it. How many times do you think you’ll wear it? Unfortunately not many. These dresses are part of my job, you can’t and that’s a shame. But I give them to my friends, who are always happy about that. They periodically come at my house to clean out my wardrobe. What advice do you feel like giving to Kate Middleton because of this “media hangover”? The only advice I have is always be true to yourself. Never have something to hide or lose. This applies to Kate Middleton and to all human beings as well. (OMG, lol that last question with answer is priceless ~ Echee)
March 2011 REMIX MAGAZINE interview “It may sound crazy, but it never really occurred to me that people would care about what I was wearing. It really didn’t. It only hit home with the last film, but now I’m increasingly aware that people really care about what I put on my body. Although I find that a little strange, it’s made me realize that when I’m in the public eye it’s important how I dress because that’s how I’m presenting myself to the world.”
I don't think fair trade will solve poverty and it's naive to think clothes can do that but at least it is something a celebrity can use their influence to get those mindless monkey see monkey do gnomes that want to dress and act like celebrities to put their money into a cause that at least helps but it will not entirely solve. But still at the end of the day people with money that can afford the high prices that comes along with this will sadly be loyal to high end instead. All Emma has done is make more money for high end and be applauded for it. She gets free clothes and accessories to do product placement when she's getting her picture taken by paparazzi. Think what she could do if it was People Tree? She's making no difference like she she says she wants to. Who cares about best dressed awards anyway?! You're not doing much other than wearing clothes. It's sad you google Peopel Tree and Emma Watson stuff comes up. Ok I just beat the dead horse a bit. Sorry.
For the record it is her stated cause but only when a line comes out and after she lets us know she designed them.
WHY FAIR TRADE?
PEOPLE TREE
Update June 2011, From dailyrecord.co.uk June 16th, 2011 Her fashion sense has helped her to become the face of Burberry, whose sales have boomed since. She said: "It's a huge compliment. It's amazing. I'm really surprised, to be honest." Emma has also become a designer in her own right, with her own range for fair trade fashion manufacturers. She added: "I love fashion and there are two more collections to come out"
UPDATE JULY 7TH, 2011, From thisislondon.co.uk July 2011, "As for her status as a style icon, she has no further ambitions to design fashion (she helped create a collection for ethical label People Tree last year) but may continue to model. The Burberry shoot was liberating because "it let people see me as something other than Hermione".

UPDATE JULY 24TH, 2011, From dailymail.co.uk July 23rd, 2011, "Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has proved a hit in front of the camera by modelling for Burberry, but now she wants to show off her skills as a fashion designer. The 21-year-old, who also plans to continue her studies at Oxford after cutting short her time at Brown University in America, has been taking fabric-cutting, design and sewing classes, I'm told. 'Emma wants to challenge herself creatively. 'She's obsessed with art at the moment,' says a mole. 'She's already designed a line of T-shirts and wants to expand her skills to create bespoke evening wear. 'She looks up to designers such as Georgina Chapman and Sarah Burton.'She has also been studying the work of Joan Miro to inspire her."
UPDATE, From ryanseacrest.com July 27th, 2011, "Ken Baker, E!’s Executive News Editor, addresses rumors that Emma Watson is leaving acting to pursue a new passion. What we know for sure is that Emma, on the heels of her last success with the final Harry Potter films, is looking to add fashion designer to her resume. How cool! This pretty starlet has already been a model for top designer Burberry and is always looking fabulous at the Harry Potter premieres. With her experience and awesome sense of style, we think she’s totally cut out for the job! Emma hasn’t decided to pursue this interest on a random whim. The ever stylish college student has been taking design classes at Brown University. She has been seen in sewing classes and is said to be “obsessed with fashion.” But don’t worry Potter-heads. This doesn’t mean that Emma is leaving acting. Rumor has it that the actress already has two post-Potter movies in the works!
