Emma Watson misses a Fair Trade/organic opportunity

The Met Ball is the fashion world equivalent to the Oscars. Met Ball is about fashion. It’s about high end fashion. Each year they do themes. In 2010 they did American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. In 2011 it was about honoring late designer Alexander McQueen. A plethora of A-list stars from across the globe attends while showing off elegant gowns and tuxedos.
It’s something Emma Watson has attended in the past. Most recent was 2010. What a perfect opportunity to wear People Tree which is about fair trade and ethical clothing. She could have used her connection to high end fashion designer Alberta Ferretti of whom she collaborated small line of organic clothing to wear to such an event.
Emma is all about Fair Trade and organic clothing. In fact she’s been affiliated with People Tree up to last year when she designed a line for them. We know this because Emma let us know. She even did a small but expensive organic clothing line with Alberta Ferretti where a pair of jeans was close to $700. She could have made a dress for such an event to push her stated fashion.
But yet she has not. For over a year we’ve heard from Emma she supports these types of things but yet she wears high end. But yet she was named best dressed female Brit last year, earned an Elle Fashion Icon award in Feb 2011 and has now been coined as the world’s best dressed woman from Glamour magazine taking that title from Cherly Cole.
Emma Watson once again missed a great chance to start a trend of her own instead of following the same old trends with designers using material that is not organic. We’ve heard her quotes of I’d wear everything from People Tree including the jewelry. We’ve heard from her that it is important to know what you are wearing and where it comes from and who made it.

She wants to make a difference but as I've said in 5 previous posts on her fashion none-sense the only difference she is making is for the wallets of designers like the late Alexander McQueen and her old boss at Burberry CEO Christopher Bailey. This latest title of the world's best dressed woman from Glamour magazine is proving my point. Let's not forget about Lancome either.

Emma Watson the 2010 best dressed female brit, 2011 Elle fashion Icon award winner and now voted the best dressed female by Glamor magazine was a no show at the 2011 Met Ball. Maybe next year with people tree and organic clothing?

Update June 2011

From dailyrecord.co.uk June 16th, 2011 Her fashion sense has helped her to become the face of Burberry, whose sales have boomed since. She said: "It's a huge compliment. It's amazing. I'm really surprised, to be honest." Emma has also become a designer in her own right, with her own range for fair trade fashion manufacturers. She added: "I love fashion and there are two more collections to come out"

UPDATE JULY 7TH, 2011

From thisislondon.co.uk  July 2011, "As for her status as a style icon, she has no further ambitions to design fashion (she helped create a collection for ethical label People Tree last year) but may continue to model. The Burberry shoot was liberating because "it let people see me as something other than Hermione".

UPDATE, From ryanseacrest.com July 27th, 2011, "Ken Baker, E!’s Executive News Editor, addresses rumors that Emma Watson is leaving acting to pursue a new passion. What we know for sure is that Emma, on the heels of her last success with the final Harry Potter films, is looking to add fashion designer to her resume. How cool! This pretty starlet has already been a model for top designer Burberry and is always looking fabulous at the Harry Potter premieres. With her experience and awesome sense of style, we think she’s totally cut out for the job! Emma hasn’t decided to pursue this interest on a random whim. The ever stylish college student has been taking design classes at Brown University. She has been seen in sewing classes and is said to be “obsessed with fashion.” But don’t worry Potter-heads. This doesn’t mean that Emma is leaving acting. Rumor has it that the actress already has two post-Potter movies in the works!
