Yemisi Blake; Great British Youth

The Great British Youth Project Is a series of images from an evolving documentary photography project by Photographer Yemisi Blake, a wonderfully talented friend of Ruby Pseudo who is currently Creative Mentor on Young People’s Programmes at Southbank Centre.

Young people aged 25 and under are presented in their local settings and doing the things they love. The individuals range from students to dancers, illustrators to writers. All share the common experience of growing up in the UK when the stage of life that we call youth is increasingly getting bad press. Starting with four portraits and ending with 100 this work will be added to for the duration of Southbank Centre’s 60th anniversary celebration of the Festival of Britain.

The Great British Youth project runs from April 22nd – September 4th 2011, and can be seen daily from 10:00AM-11:00PM. It’s in a public space, so you can just show up. No booking required. The portraits are exhibited in the Avenue of Portraits at Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX.
